We have completed major Porsche service on a 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo that is equipped with AWE Tuning 750 horse power power kit including high performance exhaust, upgraded turbochargers, full exhaust system, diverter valves, and Sachs racing clutch. This was a very healthy running turbo but the owner wanted to keep it in tip top shape and in healthy running condition. Maintenance is the key. We have sat down and did some preliminary evaluation with our client to determine what needs to be done.
One of the major concerns was the the coolant pipes. On Metzger GT1 blocks coolant pipes are glued to the engine and under excessive movement the pipes would come off from the housing discharging the coolant off the engine into the ground. This would result in catastrophic engine failure and also create safety issues for vehicles behind. There are sevearl approaches to secure coolant pipes. On this vehicle we used repinning method that was developed by our partners Sharkwerks. We also replaced plastic coolant pipes by using their metal fittings. All the coolant pipe o-rings were replaced with new oem parts. Any gasket that was removed from the engine components were replaced with a new oem gasket to ensure proper installation. We also found signs of leak from water pump. We replaced the water pump and the thermostat.
Previously we welded coolant pipes on several 996tt and 997tt cars. It is another practice we offer to clients based on personal preferences. Repinning is track proven with no failures so far. During services we saw small oil leak from one of the scavenge pumps and the front crankshaft seal and those were also addressed.
